US CITIZENS NO LONGER NEED RESIDENCE OR WORK PERMIT.

US Citizens are now even more welcome to become citizens of Curaçao!

Based on the Friendship Treaty of 1956 between the United States and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Government of Curaçao has decided to allow US citizens to take up residence in Curaçao under the same rules as those applied to European Dutch citizens.

As of June 2015, if a US Citizens is planning to take up residence in Curaçao, he/she can immediately request a Declaration of Admission by Law, which does not need to be renewed. While he/she waits for the Declaration to be issued, he/she will be allowed to stay on the island up to maximum of 6 months from the date of arrival.

In case a US citizen already resides in Curaçao with a temporary permit, he/she just need to request the Declaration instead of renewing the residence permit.

Requirements:

•A certificate of good behavior over the last five years, issued by the Authority of last country of residence within two months before arrival in Curaçao;

•Housing and sufficient resources to provide for his livelihood.
